linux : notes, bookmarks & reminders
Over the years I have tried various linux distros. But as I have always wrttin applications that run on windows server or workstations I hav never used it in vain, this has now changed.
Choosing your first linux is like an excited child in a sweet shop, knowing that they will probably like any one they choose, but not knowing what flavour they want. Down at the ingredients sweets are, for the most part, the same. Much the same can be said of a linux distro too.
Debian was simple to configure, stable yet felt rather stagnant. Gentoo was configurable to the core yet I wanted a swift transistion as I had little idea of what applications I would end up using. Ubutnu, well built on debians masive respositiories, large user base and support was very apealing, but it using gnome based on that kubuntu it is...
LinksNX Server / Client. My prefered method of gaining access to remote units. I even used a "kooka" KDE scanning application through it, granted I had to get someone to change the items that were to be scanned for me!
